Who was the first person in tech you saw yourself in, or are you still waiting? Write about what their presence, or absence, did to what you believed was possible.

Every time you succeed, you make it a little easier for the next Black woman who walks through that door.

The book describes trying "one of the boys" mode, then "super-boss mode," before landing on authenticity. Which mode have you been performing lately, and what has it cost you?

A Black woman might notice disparities in how medical AI diagnoses conditions across different skin tones, a nuance that might be overlooked by others.

Name one thing you would notice in a product review that your colleagues would walk straight past. That is your technical edge, describe it like you would in a performance review.

If necessity is the mother of invention, consider us the daughters ready to carry on the legacy.

Pick one problem in your own community, health, money, schools, safety. What would you want an AI system to notice about it, and what data would it need that nobody is collecting?

You don't have to know everything all at once. The key is to just start.

AI is a sprawling tree, language, vision, robotics, security, healthcare. Which branch lights you up? Commit to one and name the first project you'll build on it.

Having the skills is important, but building connections in the industry can open doors you didn't even know existed.
